Call for Papers: Journal of Go Studies 2026 1st Issue

/January 21, 2026

A New Year of Go Scholarship

As we enter 2026, we are delighted to welcome you to a new year of intellectual exchange and scholarly inquiry in the field of Go studies. This year holds special significance as we commemorate the 10th anniversary of the historic Google DeepMind Challenge Match in March 2016, when AlphaGo faced Lee Sedol in a landmark event that transformed our understanding of both artificial intelligence and the ancient game of Go.

About This Issue

The Journal of Go Studies has established itself as a vibrant forum for research spanning diverse fields including computer science, epistemology, education, history, anthropology, and sociology. As we reflect on a decade of unprecedented developments following the AlphaGo era, we continue to explore how Go scholarship intersects with broader questions of cutting-edge technology, human cognition, cultural transmission, and the philosophy of games.

For our 2026 first issue, we invite submissions on any topic related to Go studies. We welcome diverse perspectives and methodologies that contribute to our understanding of Go in all its dimensions and look forward to receiving your contributions and continuing the vibrant scholarly conversation that defines our community.
