Call for papers: Journal of Go Studies 2025 1st Issue

Bae Incheol / January 20, 2025

Although Journal of Go Studies doesn’t have a long tradition of publishing articles about scholarly papers, it has provided a vibrant forum for research on argumentation and scientific discourse, drawing from such fields as computer science, epistemology, and education. As Go research moves to more nuanced understandings of teaching and learning pivoting on AI, we believe we can both learn from AI studies and provide evidence relevant to the ‘blind spot’ of Go studies. In 2025 Journal of Go Studies will publish a special issue and institute a new section of the journal focusing on the theme ‘Go and Culture’.

Some example applications of ‘Go and Culture’ in Journal might include the following:

● Historical questions: How do ideas on Go change over time? What factors contribute to change?
● Anthropological questions: How are Go research group cultures produced? Maintained? Changed?
● Sociological questions: What historical, political, and social norms characterize and guide Go? How do such norms translate to Go learning environments?
● AI questions: What logical and other formal reasoning capabilities and patterns underlie domain-specific inquiry in Go? Are there general patterns of reasoning that are valuable across all the scientific domains of Go?

Information regarding the preparation of manuscripts and directions for online submission are available at:

We always welcome theoretical, conceptual, as well as empirical contributions that address implications for Go studies in general.
